The clutter is always there. I was losing my mind yesterday because the kids all needed to be three places at once. Soccer over here. Baseball over there. Oh wait, there’s the carpool, dinner, bills to pay, blah blah blah. Sometimes you just need a reset.
Here’s what I like to do:
Find a Quiet Space
Choose a quiet and comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed for the duration of your meditation. This could be a corner of your home, a quiet park bench, or any place where you feel relaxed and at ease.
Get Comfortable
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. You can sit cross-legged on the floor, on a cushion, or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground. If you’re lying down, keep your arms by your sides with your palms facing up.
Close Your Eyes
Close your eyes gently and take a few deep breaths to relax your body and calm your mind. Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your lungs to fill with air, and exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing any tension or stress.
Focus on Your Breath
Bring your attention to your breath as it flows in and out of your body. Notice the sensation of each inhale and exhale, feeling the rise and fall of your chest or the expansion and contraction of your belly.
Let Go of Thoughts
As you continue to focus on your breath, you may notice thoughts popping into your mind. Instead of engaging with these thoughts or trying to push them away, simply acknowledge them and let them go, returning your focus to your breath each time.
Be Present
Stay fully present in the moment, allowing yourself to experience each breath as it happens. Let go of any worries about the past or future, and simply be here, now, with your breath as your anchor.
Practice Gratitude
Take a moment to cultivate feelings of gratitude and appreciation. Think of three things you’re grateful for in your life, whether it’s a great wave you caught, a beautiful sunset or the time you set aside for yourself today.
End with Intention
When you feel ready to end your meditation, slowly bring your awareness back to your surroundings. Wiggle your fingers and toes, gently open your eyes, and take a moment to reflect on how you feel.
Carry the Calmness
Carry the sense of calmness and clarity you’ve cultivated in your meditation with you as you go about your day. Whenever you feel stressed or overwhelmed, take a few deep breaths and reconnect with the peace within you.
Conclusion
Incorporating a basic meditation practice into your daily routine can be a powerful tool for resetting your mind and cultivating inner peace. By following these simple steps, you can experience the transformative benefits of meditation and approach life with greater mindfulness and presence. So find a quiet space, close your eyes, and take a moment to reset and recharge your mind today.
